Most has had one of the busiest weekends in recent years. Almost 40,000 spectators came to the World Superbike Championship to cheer on eleven Czech racers in various categories and see thrilling races not only in the premier class of WorldSBK.
After Saturday's thrilling WorldSBK race, the battles at the top continued with equally dramatic battles on Sunday. Toprak Razgatlioglu dominated the morning Superpole Race on a Yamaha and started the main race, which took place at 2 p.m., from the top position. This year's championship is very balanced, so it is not surprising that the order at the top was shuffled several times during the 22 rounds. Saturday's race winner Alváro Bautista on a Ducati crushed his rivals on the exits on the home straight, while Jonathan Rea was faster on the more technical parts of the track. Toprak only returned to the front in the last third of the race and held the lead until the end. Bautista finished second and Rea was third.
Sunday's Superbikes were even more difficult for Czech Oliver König , as he wrecked his bike after a crash in the Superpole Race and was starting with an injured leg. A more detailed X-ray later revealed that the Czech rider had broken a bone in his metatarsal. His determination ultimately earned him 16th place, and he was able to repeat the success of Saturday's race, although it was still just short of the desired points. "I didn't go over the line, but I had to pedal a little differently in the corners. It was challenging, I'm glad I finished for the home crowd," König from the Orelac Racing team told reporters with his leg taped up.
In the 600m, Czech fans kept their fingers crossed for Ondra Vostatek, who finished in sixteenth place. Patrik Homola, a wild card, finished the race in the same class in 22nd place. In the 300m, Petr Svoboda, a rider from the Accolade Smrž team, finished in eleventh place, and another Filip Feigl, who started as a wild card, took 16th place.
"Last year we started building a tradition, we invested a lot in the track and facilities and I am glad that the spectators and representatives of Dorna and the International Motorcycling Federation perceive this. The satisfaction with the cooperation is mutual and after the second successful World Superbike Championship I believe that next year we will be able to continue and bring a unique spectacle and experiences to even more fans," says Josef Zajíček, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Autodrom Most . The organizers counted 37,081 visitors over the weekend and almost tripled the total numbers compared to the first year, which was marked by Covid.
“The second year of Superbikes at the Most Autodrom was a great success. The attendance was high and the races were exciting , as we saw great action in all classes on both days. This was possible thanks to the great effort and continuous improvement by the Most Autodrom, as well as the experience gained last year and the ever closer cooperation with the FIM (International Motorcycling Federation) and Dorna WSBK . We are already looking forward to returning to Most in 2023, when this venue will once again consolidate its place in the WorldSBK calendar,” commented Gregorio Lavilla, WorldSBK Executive Director, on the second year.
The World Superbike Championship in Most is the biggest sporting event in the Czech Republic this year. In addition to fans on site, hundreds of millions of viewers watched the event on television and via the official WorldSBK social media channels.
