Autodrom Most 2022: Three world-class companies and further investments in the area

Autodrom Most has had a busy racing season and promises motorsport fans at least an equally rich and varied spectacle in 2022.

The past season was full of challenges for the Most circuit, both in terms of sports and organization, and of course also in terms of the Covid situation. "Last season, we were given the opportunity to organize major events such as the World Superbike Championship, the World Touring Car Cup WTCR and others. It was a big school for us and the whole situation was complicated by the well-known pandemic. Today, however, we know that we are well prepared for events of a similar size and can handle them professionally. At the same time, we are constantly working on improving the entire area. Moreover, global events such as WorldSBK have forced us to intensify planned investments," comments Josef Zajíček, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Autodrom Most, on the past season.

Currently, another phase of the track reconstruction is underway in Most, which is focused on replacing the surface of the finish straight, including the famous first chicane and several hundred meters of the following section. Once completed, the autodrome will have a new surface along its entire length. In other places, curbs and drainage are also being changed, and some escape and containment zones are also awaiting expansion. Investments in the reconstruction will thus reach CZK 35 million in 2021 alone. The November modifications will be followed by work on other sections in February - these will again focus mainly on increasing the efficiency of escape zones and drainage.

If the past season was a premiere in several respects, next year will be more in the spirit of stabilization and continuation of work on new and traditional series. "We want to offer quality races to the widest possible range of motorsport fans. Our flagship event has of course been the World Superbike Championship, which will be held again in the middle of summer next year. The next big races will be right at the beginning of the season, when the WTCR World Touring Car Cup is on the program. The third, but this time already traditional, highlight of the season will be the European Circuit Truck Championship, which will be held in Most for the thirtieth time," reveals Josef Zajíček, the main events of the 2022 Most season.

Fans of the fastest production bikes can now look forward to the weekend of July 29-31, when the WorldSBK will be held in Most . In addition to the superbikes, where Karel Hanika started as a wild card, the SSP and SSP300 categories will also be held again, in which other Czech riders competed this year. Oliver König took a great third place in the SSP300 and next year he would like to move up to bigger bikes.

The second major event of the 2022 season will be the WTCR World Touring Car Cup, which will take place from early spring on April 9-10 (to be confirmed by the FIA). It made its Most debut during the racing super weekend at the end of October this year, when the WTCR and the EWC World Endurance Championship were held in Most over two days. In addition to Petr Fulín, another candidate for a wild card could be Tomáš Enge, who mentioned his thoughts on participating in the WTCR during the recent celebrations of his twenty-year start in F1.

The third highlight of the season will be the traditional European circuit truck championship Czech Truck Prix, which will be held on a new date during the first weekend of September, September 2-4 (to be confirmed by the FIA), where it was moved after a clash with the date of the Zlín Barum Rally. The Most autodrom is preparing a special program for its 30th anniversary, which it will introduce to fans gradually over the next year. However, it is already certain that the trucks will once again be accompanied by the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series - with the fresh Czech champion of the Euro NASCAR 2 category, Martin Doubek. The TCR Eastern Europe series will also join the weekend of celebrations for the 30th anniversary of the Czech Truck Prix.

This year, when sports events abroad were canceled due to the pandemic, we seized the opportunity and tried to win them for the Czech Republic, especially world championship races. Sometimes it was really quite rushed and the negotiations were not easy at all. On the other hand, in Mr. Zajíček, we found a professional, flexible partner with whom we managed to bring everything to a successful agreement. The world-class events that we brought here have received positive reviews both at home and abroad. I am glad that Autodrom Most is becoming a bastion of circuit motorsport races. And certainly a big thank you goes to the National Sports Agency for state financial support, without which it would not have been possible," said Jan Šťovíček, president of the Autoclub of the Czech Republic.
